|August 17, 2020||As you may know, earlier this month the World Health Organization (WHO) released an interim guidance document entitled “Considerations for the Provision of Essential Oral Health Services in the Context of COVID-19”. Many news outlets in the U.S. reported that WHO recommended that people delay “routine non-essential oral healthcare” due to COVID-19.
In response, the American Dental Association (ADA) respectfully disagreed with the WHO position. In his statement, ADA President Chad P. Gehani, DDS, stated that “Oral health is integral to overall health”. Dr. Gehani went on to share that “Dentistry is essential health care because of its role in evaluating, diagnosing, preventing or treating oral diseases, which can affect systemic health.” Please click this link to read the ADA response in its entirety.
